Long-time member and volunteer Phil Bloom has been named Interim Executive Director of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA), North America’s oldest and largest association of professional outdoor communicators, after the resignation of Executive Director Brandon Shuler.

Dr. Emanuel is a professor of atmospheric science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as the co-founder of MIT’s influential Lorenz Center. He is the author or co-author of over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers, along with three books, including Divine Wind: The History and Science of Hurricanes.
OWAA’s 2019 Excellence in Craft contests are now open. The 10 contests honor the best work from among OWAA’s members in all forms of outdoor communication from blogs to newspapers to radio to magazines to television to books.

The Outdoor Writers Association of America has selected Jay Peak Resort in Vermont, for its 2020 annual conference which will feature three jam-packed days of sessions, demos, hospitalities and more.
OWAA is excited to head to Little Rock, Arkansas, for its 92nd annual conference. The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism are excited to host OWAA on June 22-24. It’s a natural choice for OWAA to choose The Natural State.
The Outdoor Writers Association of America awarded nine Bodie McDowell scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students studying outdoor communications, totaling $24,500 for the 2018-19 school year.
