MISSOULA, Mont. – Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) announces the top three potential sites for the 2013 conference short list.
After reviewing numerous proposals, OWAA Executive Director Robin Giner and Conference Coordinator Jessica Pollett narrowed the location of the 2013 conference to three sites: the small mountain town of Bethel, Maine; Lake Placid, N.Y.; and Niagara Falls, N.Y.
At the annual membership meeting in Rochester, Minn., this past June, members expressed interests in changing conference sites from big city locations to more quaint areas with a wider variety of outdoor opportunities.
“We wanted to show members we heard their feedback at the meeting and wanted to make a stronger effort in the upcoming years to move around to different areas in an attempt to better serve the wide range of areas in which our members live and work,” Pollett said.
All of these short list locations offer a variety of outdoor activities and opportunities for members to explore and enjoy. Each location also offers simple and affordable transportation in and out of the area, along with a generous concession package for OWAA members.
Giner and Pollett visited the short list locations Oct. 18- 26, in an effort to better understand how each of the locations will benefit OWAA members. Based on the facilities, local partners and outdoor opportunities found at each location, a 2013 conference site will be selected and announced following the January OWAA Board meeting.
