Six OWAA contest winners judged ‘best of the best’

The OWAA President’s Choice Awards honor the best of the best work from a variety of media recognized in the association’s 2015 Excellence in Craft Contests. Past President Mark Freeman judged first-place winners from the 2015 EIC Contests.

This year’s President’s Choice Award winners are:
Magazine/E-zine: Matthew Copeland, of Lander, Wyoming, for “Lessons From the Land,” published in the September 2014 issue of Wyoming Wildlife. Copeland’s article placed first in the Family Participation/Youth Outdoor Education Category of the Magazine/E-zine Contest.

Newspaper/News Website: Tom Stienstra, of McCloud, California, for “Paddling with giants: Humpback whale spectacle in Monterey Bay,” published Aug. 5, 2014, in the San Francisco Chronicle. Stienstra’s article placed first in the Outdoor Fun and Adventure Category of the Newspaper/News Website Contest.

Blog: Matthew Copeland, of Lander, Wyoming, for “Ultra Sensitive,” published Mar. 3, 2014, on http://www.stalkingtheseam.com. Copeland’s blog post placed first in the Humor Category of the Blog Contest.

Radio/Podcast: Dan Small, of Belgium, Wisconsin, for “Red Green on Tour,” broadcast Mar. 22, 2014, on the Outdoor Radio Network – WHBL. Small’s show placed first in the Humor Category of the Radio/Podcast Contest.

Television/Video/Webcast: Brett Prettyman, of Salt Lake City, Utah, for “The Utah Bucket List 2,” broadcast Aug. 11, 2014, on KUED-Channel 7. Prettyman’s segment placed first in the Outdoor Fun and Adventure Category of the Television/Video/Webcast Contest.

Photography: Gary Kramer, of Willows, California, for “Flushing Pheasant,” published October 2014 in Outdoor Life. Kramer’s photo placed first in the Action Category of the Photography Contest.
