The Outdoor Writers Association of America has selected Jay Peak Resort in Vermont, for its 2020 annual conference which will feature three jam-packed days of sessions, demos, hospitalities and more.
The Vermont Convention Bureau and OWAA’s local chair Gary Moore look forward to welcoming OWAA to Jay Peak on June 27-29, 2020.
“Jay Peak and Northern Vermont are the ideal location for OWAA’s 2020 annual conference,” said Moore. “There are so many opportunities to hike, fish, canoe and enjoy the outdoors that it would take many pages for me to list them.”
A network for trails of varying lengths and difficulties surround Jay Peak. Vermont’s Long Trail, which runs the length of the state from the Massachusetts border to Canada, crosses the resort property.
Paddlers will find countless opportunities on rivers, ponds and lakes a short distance from the resort. The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740-mile paddling trail that runs from Old Forge, New York, to Fort Kent, Maine, and passes close by Jay Peak.
Jay Peak is in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom and is known for its trout fishing, Moore said. Rivers lakes and ponds provide fishing opportunities no matter your style. There are also plenty of places to fish for warm water species such as bass, walleyes and northern pike.
Moore will organize a range of pre- and post-conference reporting trip opportunities to let you fully explore all Vermont has to offer for a memorable– and profitable– conference.
“A writer looking for a unique story is going to find it at, or around Jay Peak,” said JJ Toland, the director of communications at Jay Peak Resort. “The word’s out on the fact that we get the most snow in the East. But most don’t know that 25-pound trout are waiting for a fly in Lake Memphremagog.”
Conference sessions will take place at the resort. The resort will also host a welcome dinner at the base of the mountain and offer tram rides to the summit of Jay Peak for panoramic views of Vermont, Canada, New Hampshire and New York.
Resort amenities include an on-site championship golf course, an indoor waterpark, the Ice Haus indoor skating arena, rec center, spa and a disc golf course, making it a family-friendly destination as well. The resort is offering a conference rate of $119/night at Hotel Jay which is connected to the conference center, and the adjacent Tram Haus Lodge.
OWAA has never had a conference in Vermont, but with its wealth of outdoor opportunities and unique stories, it seems long overdue! Conference attendees will find outdoor activities to suit a variety of interests and ability, as well as opportunities to network, hone their communication skills and learn about important outdoor issues.
Details about the Vermont conference will be posted at https://owaa-oldsite.birchbarkmedia.com/2020conference as they become available.
