Six OWAA contest winners judged ‘best of the best’

The President’s Choice Awards honor the best of the best work from winners in OWAA’s 2017 Excellence in Craft Contests.

Past President Brett Prettyman picked his favorites among first-place winners in the 2017 EIC contests to recognize with the President’s Choice Award. 

This year’s President’s Choice Award winners are:

Magazine/E-zine: Michael Furtman, of Duluth, Minnesota, for “My Life With Labs,” published in the September/October 2016 issue of Ducks Unlimited Magazine. Furtman’s article placed first in the hunting or shooting sports category of the magazine/e-zine contest.

Newspaper/News Website: David Sikes, of Corpus Christi, Texas, for “Choking the Gulf,” published Sept. 18, 2016, in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Sikes’ article placed first in the conservation or nature category of the newspaper/news website contest.
 
Blog: Chris Madson, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, for “Season’s End,” published Feb. 3, 2016, on http://www.thelandethic.com. Madson’s blog post placed first in the hunting or shooting sports category of the blog contest.

Radio/Podcast: John Kruse, of Wenatchee, Washington, for “Recording the Sounds of Nature at Yellowstone National Park,” broadcast Aug. 6, 2016, on Northwestern Outdoors Radio. Kruse’s show placed first in the conservation or nature category of the radio/podcast contest.

Television/Video/Webcast: Jim Schlosser, of San Rafael, California, and Tom Stienstra, of McCloud, California, for “The Mighty T – The Tuolumne River – From Glacier to Golden Gate,” broadcast Oct. 26, 2016, by KVIE Public Television Channel 6. Schlosser and Stienstra’s segment placed first in the conservation or nature category of the television/video/webcast contest.

Photography: Tim Christie, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for “The Crossing,” which was sold at a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet in February 2016. Christie’s photo placed first in the scenic category of the photography contest.
