MISSOULA, Mont. – Members of the Outdoor Writers Association of America elected Ann Simpson of Virginia, Matt Soberg of Minnesota, and Danielle Taylor of Pennsylvania, to serve on the organization’s board of directors.
The new board members start their three-year terms on June 26, 2017, at OWAA’s annual conference in Duluth, Minnesota. They replace Sam Caldwell, Kris Millgate and Mike Zlotnicki.
“OWAA is a stronger organization because of the exhaustive energy and creative ideas Kris, Sam and Mike have contributed during their three-year term on the board.” said Colleen Miniuk-Sperry, interim executive director and board secretary. “While we will certainly miss their presence, we look forward to the energy and thoughts that Ann, Matt and Danielle will bring to help OWAA continue to be a world-class resource for outdoor communicators.”
Simpson, who joined OWAA in 2012, is the author and cophotographer of 14 nature and wildlife books on the major U.S. National Parks. She has taught biology for nearly 25 years at Lord Fairfax Community College in Virginia.
A member since 2011, Soberg is the editor and director of communications for the Ruffed Grouse Society. He publishes the Ruffed Grouse Society magazine, coordinates digital media and public relations and develops new-member campaigns for the organization. He earned his juris doctorate degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2005.
Taylor is a freelance journalist whose work focuses primarily on outdoor recreation, conservation, public lands and travel. She has written for Subaru Drive, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Rails to Trails, Wonderful West Virginia, Outdoors Unlimited, MatadorNetwork.com, Alamo.com and other regional and national print and online publications.
