MISSOULA, Mont. – At the recent Outdoor Writers Association of America annual conference, the OWAA Board of Directors elected Mark Freeman of Medford, Ore., to serve as second vice president of the association.
Freeman has served on the OWAA Board of Directors since 2009. He will serve a three-year term as vice president, ascending to OWAA president in 2014. An OWAA member since 1993, Freeman is a staff writer and columnist for the Medford (Ore.) Mail Tribune and an adjunct professor of journalism at Southern Oregon University.
“As vice president, Freeman will bring dedication and outspokenness to the governance of OWAA,” said Robin Giner, OWAA executive director.
In a letter provided to his electors – the OWAA Board of Directors – Freeman wrote: “… I am excited to seek this position now as we now start building on some of the major changes we as a board have enacted in the past few years – namely the mission and goals work forged in November’s [strategic planning] retreat, revamping the [Excellence in Craft] contests and rewriting the membership criteria to make OWAA more inclusive and relevant to users of new types of technologies. I found myself working more deeply within those issues than I expected going into them, and it provided a lesson.”
“I believe now is the right time for me to move forward with expanding my devotion to the OWAA by becoming an officer.”
