MISSOULA, Mont. – Conference and lodging registration for OWAA’s 2012 annual conference will open online Sept. 1, 2011 at http://www.owaa-oldsite.birchbarkmedia.com/2012conference, for all OWAA Members and Supporting Groups! Make your reservations early to get in on this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Why Chena Hot Springs Resort? The authentic Alaskan resort has a range of story material on-site and is close to a number of outdoor adventure opportunities. The resort will be open exclusively for OWAA conference attendees, marking its first closure to the public in more than 12 years.
Chena Hot Springs Resort has a number of unique lodging arrangements for conference-goers, including on-site yurts and wall tents, RV and tent camping spaces along the Chena River, and traditional lodge rooms and family suites that can sleep four to six individuals.
There are a limited number of hotel rooms. Hotel accommodations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, with OWAA headquarters handling all conference lodging reservations. Attendees wishing to stay in these rooms will be required to share the rooms with at least one other conference-goer or spouse/family. This is a great opportunity to reduce lodging expenses by sharing costs with a colleague.
Attendees seeking private accommodations also have the option to reserve an RV or a wall tent.
The early opening of registration allows OWAA headquarters the time necessary to coordinate the ideal housing opportunity for each attendee. All lodging arrangements will include complimentary hot springs/pool passes.
Spouses, partners, families and guests traveling to Alaska can stay in a Fairbanks hotel at a group rate, allowing them access to more dining and recreation opportunities, as well as special spouse/guest programming and area transportation. Possible activities in Fairbanks include native craft workshops, bird walks, riverboat tours, museums, and a day-trip to North Pole. All guests staying in Fairbanks will be shuttled to and from Chena Hot Springs on the final day of the conference to experience the activities at the Resort as well as attend the EIC and Honorary Awards banquet.
During an August site visit to Alaska, the OWAA conference committee met with staff from Chena Hot Springs Resort, Fairbanks CVB, Denali National Park, and others, to discuss pre- and post-conference opportunities, session topics and lodging opportunities to enhance the Alaskan experience for conference attendees.
