MISSOULA, Mont. – Outdoor Writers Association of America is offering professional development renewal hours for the Goldenrod Writing Workshop, issued through the Montana Office of Public Instruction. Goldenrod students can earn 15 credit hours for attending all resident-faculty sessions during the workshop.
OWAA pursued this option in an effort to increase access to development funds and job enrichment grants for educators who would like to attend the workshop. Credits often transfer between states, but non-Montana educators should refer to their states educational credit guidelines for clarification.
The second annual Goldenrod Writing Workshop will be held July 31-Aug. 6, 2011, at The University of Montana-Missoula. Open to novice communicators and published professionals alike, the week-long workshop is designed to improve skills in outdoor, nature and environmental writing.
The curriculum includes assignments, discussions, readings and shared critiques with resident faculty members, followed by afternoon presentations from visiting faculty. Evenings can be spent networking, completing assignments and of course, exploring the beautiful Montana outdoors. OWAA will also host a welcome dinner, a farewell BBQ and afternoon breakout activities including fly-fishing, floating the river or visiting local ghost towns.
Enrollment is limited to 30 students and it’s on a first come, first served basis. The $995 fee includes meals, tuition and room and board in University of Montana campus housing.
The deadline for applications is June 1, 2011, and requires a $250 non-refundable deposit.
